Medical Excuse Policy
Consistent with the recommendation of the American College Health Association and the practice of many universities, MSU SHS Medical Services does not provide medical excuses (a "doctor's note").
As with any situation which may cause a student to miss an assignment, lecture, lab, exam, or other academic responsibility, we encourage students to contact faculty directly via an email or phone call as soon as possible to discuss the situation and determine how the student should proceed.
For a prolonged illness or injury such as a hospitalization, we encourage students to not only contact faculty, but also the Dean of Students office to discuss options such as making up the work, taking an incomplete and making up the work later, or withdrawing and retaking the class at a later date.
Please see the MSU Office of the Provost campus letter to faculty dated December 5, 2019 for additional details.
