University Insurance Requirements
Health insurance is required whenever a student is enrolled for seven or more academic credits.
- Staying healthy is essential to your academic success! The Montana University System requires all students taking seven (7) or more credits and paying mandatory fees to have and maintain major medical insurance while they are attending school each Fall/Spring semester.
- The Montana University System contracts with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Montana to provide students an affordable and comprehensive PPO private insurance plan as an option to satisfy this requirement. Thisplan meets or exceeds a Gold level of coverage.
- If you have your own insurance, you may decline the student insurance policy. This is done when you register for classes. Any changes to your insurance selection must be made before the 15th class day of the semester. If you have already made your insurance selection but now would like to change (and it is before the 15th class day of the semester), contact the student insurance team at studentinsurance@montana.edu or (406) 994-3199.
