Food Drive

The Cascade 4-H Ambassadors held a club food drive. Congratulations to the Big Sky Explorers 4-H Club for hauling in the most donations with 141 items! Second place goes to Ulm Pishkun 4-H Club with 51 items and third place goes to Eden Livestock 4-H Club with 8 items. The ambassadors will host an ice cream party for the Big Sky Explorers 4-H Club.

4-H Camp Information

4-H Camp Registration opens April 1

Registration is opened April 1 through ZSuite Events and end May 15. This year’s theme is Time Travel. Camp is a four-day event, held at Camp Rotary in Neihart, MT, provides a variety of workshops such as crafts, dance, games, shooting sports, and activities such as recreation, hiking, and campfires. Campers sleep in cabins with an adult chaperone and teen director. Camp dates are June 9-12. Cloverbuds are not allowed to attend camp.

4-H Project News and Updates

Project Day

Registration is now open for the April 13 Project Day on ZSuite and is due by 11:59 pm on Wednesday, April 10.

Available workshops include Cloverbuds, Livestock Quality Assurance, Horse Driving, and Sewing. 

4-H Fashion and Sewing Review and Quilt Show

Registration is open through ZSuite events. Event is open to all Cascade County 4-H members, including Cloverbuds! The event will take place on Thursday, April 25, starting at 5:30pm at the Extension Office. Registration is due by Sunday, April 21 at 11:59pm. 

Working Ranch Horse Practices

Lisa Jassen will host Working Ranch Hose Practices each Monday in June at 376 US Hwy 87, Belt, MT. Call Lisa at (406) 781-3678 for more information. 

 

Recreation (Rec) Lab Registration Open

Rec Lab will be April 19-21 at Jefferson County School in Boulder, MT. This year’s theme is Going for Green. Rec Lab provides opportunities for youth and adults to enhance their leadership, communication and team building skills in an action packed and interactive setting. Rec Lab programming is designed to provide participants with tips and tricks for being a better club, camp, and community leader. Montana 4-H Rec Lab is open to youth 13 years of age or older as of October 1, 2023. Adult chaperones must be at least 21 years of age.  Registration fee is$100 per participant from February 26 to April 3 and increases to $125 per participant from April 4 to April 10.Registration is now open and can be found through ZSuite Events. Livestock Quality Assurance

4-H members enrolled in livestock projects (dairy, beef, goat, sheep, poultry, rabbit, and swine) MUST complete Livestock Quality Assurance (LQA). 4-H members need to take LQA once as a junior member (9-13 years old) and once as a senior member (14 years old and older). Parents must also attend this informative session. LQA will be offered on April 13 from 9:00 am to noon at the Extension office. Register through ZSuite “April 2024 Project Day” event. 4-H members who need to take LQA and cannot make April 13 need to email Rose at rose.malisani@montana.edu to make other arrangements. 4-H members will need to complete LQA by June 17. Those needing to take were emailed on January 31.

 

Intent to Enter for Market Swine, Sheep, Goat open through ZSuite Events

Registration for each species is under ZSuite Events. Ear tags are available at the Extension office. Animals must have an ear tag from the Extension office. FULL BODY PHOTO(S) showing the ear tags are required.  Intent to Enter does not automatically enter your market animal in the Cascade 4-H Show and Sale. You must enter the Cascade 4-H Livestock Show separately. There are 3 sperate events for each species. The events are labeled and due by the following 2024 Market Swine Intent to Enter and Pictures due April 17, 2024 Market Goat Intent to Enter and Pictures due May 8, and 2024 Sheep Intent to Enter and Pictures due May 8. *IT IS HIGHLY ENCOURAGED THAT EXTRA ANIMALS ARE INTENTED DUE TO LIVESTOCK SICKNESS AND DEATH. LIVESTOCK NOT INTENTED WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO SHOW. 4-H siblings may jointly intent to enter one market beef, goat, sheep, or swine.*  Intent to Enter Dates are April 17 for market swine, May 8 for market goats and sheep, and May 22 for meat pens. Late Intent to Enter will be charged $25 per animal fee or per meat pen and are only accepted for one week past the due date.

4-H Breeding Swine, Dairy Cattle, Goat, and Sheep Breeding Project Declaration

Mature breeding project animals to be shown at the Cascade County 4-H Livestock Show and Sale must be owned by the species market intent to enter date. The breeding project animal will be identified on the intent to enter form by a unique, permanent identifier. Identifiers could include RFID tags, tattoo, ear notch, etc. 4-H members may declare multiple mature animals per species. Breeding Declaration form must include a full body photo of the animal. There is no cost to declare a breeding animal. You must declare animal(s) in order to show at the 2024 Cascade County 4-H Livestock Show and Sale. You can declare your Goat, Sheep, and Swine breeding project declaration through ZSuite Events. There are 4 sperate events for each species. The events are labeled and due by the following  2024 Swine Breeding Project Declaration due April 17, 2024 Dairy Cattle Breeding Project Declaration due April 18, 2024 Goat Breeding Project Declaration due May 8, and 2024 Sheep Breeding Project Declaration due May 8.
