Career Development
LIFE Scholars participate in campus and community internships during their final year of the program to prepare them for competitive employment upon graduation.
The Project SEARCH internship model is used to engage students in meaningful work experiences to gain marketable and transferable skills in their chosen career path. The students:
- Participate in daily classroom instruction
- Complete two, 10-week internships in campus or community businesses
- Learn complex and systematic tasks
- Gain confidence and independence
- Develop professional relationships
Student interns work in campus and community businesses with on-site support from LIFE Scholars program staff and a business mentor. Interns graduate with a career portfolio, which includes a visual resume, letters of recommendation and competency profile.
LIFE Scholars also work part-time on campus during their first two years of the program to gain work experience prior to their internship year.
