Step 1: Complete the Employer Partner Information Request Form.
Step 2: You will receive a call from Bobcat Student Employment to discuss the partnership
process and next steps.
Step 3: Send all job descriptions and relevant information to Bobcat Student Employment for
position postings.
Step 4: Hire student employees.
Step 5: Inform Bobcat Student Employment of hired student(s).
Optional Step 6: Promote career development events to student employees.
Looking to fill your undergraduate research positions?
Undergraduate Research highly encourages faculty to utilize MSU's contracted platform HireABobcat to post open positions for students, and to be familiar with undergraduate hiring restrictions on any grant you will be utilizing. To learn more about paying with a stipend versus being on payroll, reach out to Anna Tuttle, UGR Director. How can Bobcat Student Employment help our department?
It is Bobcat Student Employment’s goal to match students to departmental positions that fit their interests. After you submit your inquiry, a Bobcat Student Employment representative will reach out with more details. We look at students' experience levels and match the students' and employers’ needs. We recruit your department and promote your open positions (3 job fairs, orientations/events, digital promotion, etc).
How does my department partner with Bobcat Student Employment?
Bobcat Student Employment will help recruit students for the open positions your department provides to us.

After the partnership is active, your department will send us open positions and we will start sending students to you!
How do I find and hire a student through Bobcat Student Employment?
We help facilitate the hiring process by sending students directly to you. When a student applies with Bobcat Student Employment, we match them with your open positions, provide them with your application instructions, and guide them through the process.
As an employer, what are my expectations as a partner of Bobcat Student Employment?
- Provide open positions
- Update openings regularly
- Regularly communicate with Bobcat Student Employment any students you hired through the program
What is the interview process?
Bobcat Student Employment does not replace your hiring process; rather, we help your recruitment efforts and facilitate the application process. Our goal is to connect students to your open positions. The interview and hiring is based on departmental requirements.
How many hours will students work?
Students (those enrolled in 12 or more credits) can work 6 to 20 hours a week, based on their desire. It is important to communicate with the student and make sure expectations are met on both sides. The limits are on total hours per week, so if the student is working multiple positions, hours for the student may vary each week.
Can my student employees work over breaks?
During breaks student employees can work up to 40 hours per week.
Can I hire students with work study through the Bobcat Student Employment Program?
Yes! If your department is looking for students with work study, we can send you great candidates.
Can we post seasonal or temporary positions?
We will recruit for any on-campus positions. Timely positions can be featured on our Bobcat Student Employment webpage.
How does my department benefit from the Gold Standard Career Development Program?
The Gold Standard Career Development Program will enhance the professional skills of your student employees, creating a more productive environment and improving employee retention rates. This program will also create a positive departmental culture, leading to increased employee engagement.
