One-on-one Appointments

One-on-one appointments are an opportunity for writers to connect with a peer tutor and discuss their writing. The Writing Center offers one-on-one tutoring for student writers of all disciplines, from first year to advanced graduate degree, at any stage of the writing process. 

Writers can meet with a tutor online or in person. We offer in-person sessions in all three of our locations: Wilson Hall 1-114, Romney Hall 207, and Renne Library (first floor). 

Students can make appointments by going to the Writing Center homepage and clicking "Schedule a Session." We recommend students make appointments in advance, but we welcome walk-ins at any of our locations. We also have a designated walk-in tutor in our Romney Writing Center Monday through Friday. 

Group Appointments

Our tutors are also available to work with groups on collaborative writing projects. We offer in-person and online group appointments; however, online group appointments need to be booked 48 hours in advance.   

In-class Presentations

At your request, peer tutors will come to your class to tell your students about the Writing Center and answer questions. Our standard class presentation takes about 5-10 minutes and gives a brief who, what, when, where, how, and why of the Writing Center. We recommend scheduling class presentations at the start of a new semester.

Proof of Attendance

If you would like proof that your students worked with the Writing Center, ask students to share their “session notes” with you. After each tutoring session, our tutors email notes to the writer summarizing their conversation, outlining students’ revision plans, and/or providing additional resources. The email will include the date and time of the appointment. Your students can forward these notes or print them for you. 

A Place to Write

Sometimes we can best support our students by offering them a place to write. Students are welcome in any location if they would like to work on their assignments where help is easily available. In addition, throughout the semester, we will host workshops and writing retreats to support specific groups of writers. This type of support is particularly useful for our upper division and graduate students who are working on complex writing projects. Please contact us if you would like to set something up.
