We hope that your semester has started off well! We would like to let you know about three upcoming internal grant opportunities to support innovative excellence in teaching and scholarship. Please see the information, links and deadlines below for

  • Mini-grants to attend the April National Conference on Distance Education and Blended Learning,
  • Instructional Innovation Grants and
  • Faculty Excellence Grants.

Mini-Grants for Distance Education

Tenure and non-tenure track faculty are invited to apply for mini-grants to attend theOnline Learning Consortium Innovate Conference is on-site from April 10-13 and virtually from April 23-25 in Denver, CO. The OLC Innovate conference presents an extraordinary opportunity to learn from nationally recognized leading thinkers about cutting edge developments in distance education and blended learning.

Instructional Innovation Grants

Tenure and non-tenure track are invited to submit proposals for theInstructional Innovation Grants Program, 2024 - 2025. Proposals for up to $4,000 may be submitted. They are intended to give faculty funding to create and develop new methods to improve their teaching and student learning with the goal of increasing student success.

Faculty Excellence Grants

Tenure track faculty are invited to submit proposals for theFaculty Excellence Grants (FEG) Program. FEGs have a maximum award of $5,000 each. The goal is to enable faculty to engage in activities that will enhance scholarship in all disciplines.

In this workshop, you will actively learn about active learning pedagogies, including proven strategies and evidence-based, best practices for creating an active learning classroom.

3-part workshop series on Effective Research Mentoring

Thursday, February 1 ||1:00 PM- 3:00 PM || MSU Library 324 Teaching Space||Register

Looking for some ideas on how to best mentor graduate and undergraduate students in research? This three-part series uses materials from the Center for Improved Mentoring Experiences in Research to explore many different subjects around mentoring. While it is helpful to attend all the sessions, it is not required. These sessions will be offered each spring semester.

Part 1 – Assessing Understanding, Fostering Independence and Promoting Professional Development

  • February 1 || 1:00 – 3:00 pm || 324 Library Teaching Space || Register now

Part 2 – Promoting Mentee Research Self-Efficacy, Fostering Wellbeing and Enhancing Work-Life Integration

Part 3 - Addressing Equity & Inclusion, Aligning expectations and Effective Communications

Completing each workshop in the series will earn 2 credits towards membership in the Center.

Introduction to Universal Design for Learning

An introduction to Universal Design for Learning. We will cover the main principles of UDL and start a conversation about when you might apply UDL in your courses. There will be subsequent workshops on specific aspects of Universal Design for Learning.

The deadline to submit proposals to the Undergraduate Scholars Program for Summer 2024 projects is Sunday, February 4, 2024 at midnight.  Please apply via the USP Application portal on Submittable.
