The focus of the FCS program is to improve individual and family behaviors, and community well-being. Agents offer programs aimed at  providing education and resources relating to food  and nutrition, health and wellness, and a wide range of family issues such as changing family structures, inter-generational relations; human response to stress and crisis; family laws, finance and economics; and decision-making.

Home Canning Fall Lecture Series

This series is free. All sessions will be held 5:45 pm – 6:45 pm at the Billings Public Library (510 N Broadway, Billings, MT) in the Community Room .

Program Date(s) & Topic:

  • Wednesday, September 4 - Home Canning 101: This session provides a general overview of the principles and science of home canning. Participants will learn about acceptable methods for canning; recognizing unsafe or outdated practices; and equipment selection based on their preferred canning method.
  • Wednesday, September 18 – Pressure Canner Care & Operation: Participants will be introduced to the care and operation of their pressure canner. Identifying key features in function and safety; cleaning and storage between seasons; and processing basics will be covered in this session.
  • Wednesday, October 2 – Water Bath 101: Participants will learn the basics of water bath canning; identify what foods are canned with this method; and be able to outline the steps for successful water bath canning.

ServSafe Food Manager

Stay current on the latest food safety information with ServSafe Food Manager training.  Topics covered in this course include personal hygiene, cross-contamination, time and temperature, and cleaning and sanitizing.  ServSafe Food Manager is an ANSI-CFP accredited program administered by the National Restaurant Association. This full-day program includes in-person course delivery and the proctored exam. The course fee is $125.

StrongPeople

StrongPeople is an evidence-based strength training program designed for older adults who want to stay strong, fit, and healthy. Each class progresses through a series of 8-10 exercises focused on resistance training, balance, and flexibility.
