Flathead 4-H Foundation Minutes February 27, 2025
Held at the Grandstands Building at the Flathead County Fairgrounds.
Board members present: Carol Olson-Erickson, Kristi Davis, Ashli Darrach, Christine Kaupp, Sandy Evenson, Rose McIntyre, Joselyn Hawbaker, Emily Hall, Mark Campbell, Lesley Hawbaker, Ashley King-Jones, Wally Sutten.
Board members absent: Scott Hinkley, Mark Blasdel, Jill Kahanek

Meeting called to order at 6:02 PM by Carol Olson-Erickson.

Treasurer's report - Mark Campbell is talking with Amy Henry. Forth coming, waiting on background check for leader clearance.
Bills -Paying Bigfork Chamber for membership and and paying Lake County Landfill. Mark Campbell moved to pay the bills, Rose McIntyre seconded the motion. Motion passed. For more information on Flathead Foundation bills, please contact the Flathead County Extension office.
Committee Reports
Brick: Extended with Chick-Fil-A, 4 applications have been turned in online. Dana Higgins had QR Code info. Jill Kahanek has the video and is updating, then will be done.
Raffle: Getting tickets ordered next week. Board members to club meetings to explain and hand out tickets. Video may be done by Lux Bain to explain, instead of getting to all the meetings.
4-H Council: Council hired Sheila Schlegel of SLS Bookkeeping to council books. Awards committee has been working on the awards for the upcoming year and have funds left over from last year. Market animal committees are meeting regularly. Leader's banquet took place on January 18th. Foods fair on January 11th. Legislative breakfast/citizenship took place January 19th-20th in Helena and two kids attended. County congress took place April 19th at the AG Center. Rec Lab coming up in March. The dance project started in February to end of March. Shooting sports is working with Glacier Nordic Ski Team for a biathalon.
Camp report: May 20, Cabin work day at camp. May 22, WFCF Great Fish Challenge Grant due, Jun 7, Flathead 4-H Counselor training day, June 12, Camp Summer staff orientation/Training TBD, June 16, camp season begins. June 24, camp invasive weeds service day with Swan Valley Connections and Walk & Talk Education with Extension Agent Mackenzie Dey. June 26, Whitefish Community Foundation: Grow your Gifts workshop. July 4, Bigfork Parade. July 10, Great Fish Community Challenge Mandatory Meeting. For more detailed information on the Camp Report, please contact the Extension Office.
Scholarships: Due at the end of March. Scholarships to be applied to Fall Semester - $500. Right now, it's $250 for Fall and $250 for Spring. Mark Campbell moved to have College release funds to student. Rose McIntyre seconded. Motion passed. Expanding our scholarships was discussed. Sandy Evenson moved to make a higher scholarship for one outstanding youth. Kristi Davis seconded the motion. Motion passed. Old Business- 1% we pay to MSU is a work in progress, 1% on what we make in a year. Ashli Darrach. Separate Accounts and labeled. Ashley King-Jones moved to accept the as amended with 1%. Rose McIntyre seconded the motion. Motion passed. Mark Campbell will be added to Accounts.
New Business-Whitefish Grant needs to be used by March 20th. Would like a list from clubs of what your club has done for Community service for the past four years. Two advisors, Ashley King-Jones and Mark Campbell to walk through grant. Starts fair - 6 week progress. Amount would be used to program development, like guest speakers, wood working, leader enhancement. Rose McIntyre moved to use for grant writing program development. Christina Kaupp seconded the motion. Motion passed. Rose McIntyre moved to have meetings every 3rd Thursday of the month, starting in May. Motion Passed.
Alumni Data base. Gift baskets donated by clubs for the Bigfork Chamber mixer to be held on May 8th at the 4-H Camp for raffle prizes. B & F Livestock, Lakeview Livestock, Glacier View, Golden Spurs. Ear marked funds - for Livestock team. Accounts are not open yet, the third of the money raised from spaghetti dinner was announced. these funds are to be used to travel only - Oversight for Livestock Judging. Mark Campbell moved to complete the check to the livestock judging team for travel expenses. Sandy Evenson seconded the motion. Motion passed. Looking for new Board Members - Small animal committee presentation on new cages for the poultry barn (64 cages). $4755.00 still needed, would like to get donations. For every $100.00 donation you would receive a plaque with your name on it and hung in the barn. Sandy Evenson moved to take the program line item to match what they have already earned. Christina Kaupp seconded the motion. Motion passed. Rose McIntyre moved that we give Lux Bain money for Worlds Robot Competition, with the intent of Lux sharing her journey and project with the 4-H Kids. Wally Sutton seconded the motion. Motion passed.
Added money to the budget for 2 more parade banners. Talk with Phil for pricing for name tags. Rose is looking into shirts from Game On. Ashley King-Jones moved to budget for advertising banners, name tags, and shirts. Christina Kaupp seconded the motion. Motion passed.
Rose McIntyre moved to adjourn the meeting. Joselyn Hawbaker seconded. Motion passed.
Next meeting to be held on April 12, 2025 at the 4-H Camp clean up.

Scholarship opportunities:
Four - $500 scholarships for Graduating High School Seniors
(Must be an active Flathead 4-H member in good standing)
Two - $500 scholarships for Current College / Trade School Students
(Must have been an active Flathead 4-H member in good standing upon graduation from high school)
Please check the box for the scholarship you are applying for.
All scholarships must be used during the 2024-2025 academic year.
Please complete this scholarship form in its entirety. Typed answers are preferred. You may attach additional sheets of paper if your answers exceed the space allowed. Applicants must be currently attending or plan to attend a college, trade school, or other institution of higher learning during academic yr 2024-2025.
A complete scholarship application packet must include the following:
- scholarship application
- letter of reference from a 4-H Leader
- summary/resume of your 4-H accomplishments (i.e. projects, awards, trips, events, activities, etc.)
The complete scholarship application packet must arrive (not postmarked) at the Flathead County Extension Office no later than 4:30 pm Thursday, May 30, 2024.

Flathead 4-H Foundation is excited to
announce an opportunity to affirm your
place and provide a legacy for the
future at the Flathead County Fairgrounds!
Make your mark in the walkway that leads into the Grandstand Building. Have your family name, a 4-H member’s name, your business or organization’s name engraved in a brick on the walkway. You could even choose to engrave a brick in honor of someone special or create a family treasure for generations to come. We have lots of people that have spent much of their life in and around 4-H over the years and many have come through the grandstand building on their way to a livestock sale, or in support of one of their family members involved in 4-H. So honor your special friend, loved one, or family member with a commemorative engraved brick that will last forever in the walkway to the Grandstand building. Placement of the engraved bricks on the ground will be random.
