Workshops

 

Workshops are held throughout the semester to provide support and guidance on the ePortfolio project. The workshop schedule has changed to better serve students; in the first month of the semester, the ePortfolio program runs a series of workshops introducing students to ePortfolios and getting them started. In the second month of the semester, the workshops focus on taking ePortfolios one step further, incorporating professional development themes and considerations. Descriptions of these workshops can be found below, along with the schedule and links to RSVP for workshops.

Series One: Introduction to ePortfolios 

Get started on your ePortfolio! Join our first series of workshops as you begin to design your portfolio, collect artifacts and reflect on your experiences. By the end of this series, you should have a completed ePortfolio with at least four distinct sections (see the Getting Started page for more information on the standard outline), artifacts and reflections on the experiences they represent, and well-rounded content that you feel best represents you.

There are three workshops in series one: Getting Started, Collecting Artifacts and Reflecting on Experience. Students do not need to attend all three workshops; they are organized so that the content builds upon what students learned in the prior workshops, but there is an opening presentation and then time to work during which attendees can ask questions and workshop facilitators can catch them up on what they missed. 

Getting Started

The first workshop, Getting Started, focuses on familiarizing students with Adobe Express, the primary supported platform for ePortfolios. During this workshop, students explore the tool and begin to create their ePortfolios. By the end of this workshop, students should have a good grasp of Express's capabilities and the landing and welcome sections of their ePortfolios. Note: students are not required to use Express, but the Digital Literacy Integration Team can provide the best technical support for Adobe tools. 

Collecting Artifacts

The second workshop, Collecting Artifacts, focuses on the content element of an ePortfolio. Students collect artifacts like pictures, videos and work samples and integrate them into their ePortfolios during this workshop. By the end of this workshop, students should have a good variety of visual and multimedia elements in their ePortfolios, specifically in the Coursework and Outside the Classroom sections. 

Reflecting on Experience

The third workshop, Reflecting on Experience, focuses on filling out the rest of an ePortfolio with attention to making connections between artifacts and the skills and qualities they represent. During this workshop, students reflect on how the content in their ePortfolios demonstrates their unique strengths. By the end of this workshop, students should have a complete ePortfolio with written content that articulates how students have learned and grown through the courses and experiences included in their portfolios.

Series Two: Professional Development

Take your ePortfolio to the next level! Series two workshops are all about ensuring that your ePortfolio represents you in the most authentic, encompassing way. By the end of this series, you will have a personal brand, be conscious of your portfolio's potential audience(s) and should be ready to present your ePortfolio to the world. 

There are three workshops in series one: Build Your Brand, Target Your Audience and Perfect Your Presentation. Students do not need to attend all three workshops; they are organized so that the content builds upon what students learned in the prior workshops, but there is an opening presentation and then time to work during which attendees can ask questions and workshop facilitators can catch them up on what they missed.

Build Your Brand

The first workshop, Build Your Brand, ensures ePortfolios are cohesive and best reflect their creators. During this workshop, students explore ways to create a personal brand within their ePortfolios, including Express's Brand Creator tool. By the end of this workshop, students should have a more visually cohesive ePortfolio and an understanding of the importance of consistency in digital media.

Target Your Audience

The second workshop, Target Your Audience, focuses on the different audiences an ePortfolio might have and how to tailor content to who will be viewing it. During this workshop, students are encouraged to discuss the potential audiences of their ePortfolios and work on mindfully tailoring content to what those audiences frequently look for. By the end of this workshop, students should have a better idea of their ePortfolio's targeted audience and content that reflects their goals in using their ePortfolios. 

Perfect Your Presentation

The third workshop, Perfect Your Presentation, focuses on ePortfolio presentation skills and design aspects that support this. During this workshop, students evaluate their ePortfolios and explore ways to streamline in-person and online presentations of their ePortfolios. By the end of this workshop, students should have a deeper understanding of the content within their ePortfolios and how best to present it in various circumstances.
