Initial Score of 65 and above
You are eligible to take the Calculus Readiness Diagnostic to determine if you are ready to take M 171.
BOOKMARK THIS PAGE FOR FUTURE REFERENCE. This page contains links you may need to raise your placement level and better prepare for your first math class.
If your initial diagnostic score is 65 or above, your MSU Math Placement Level is at least 400.
- If you also answered Calculus Placement questions, this might raise your placement. Approximately 24 hours after completing your Calculus Placement, the system will automatically adjust your placement if you have achieved Level 500. No matter how you do on the Calculus Placement, you can continue to work in your EdReady Study Path to ensure you are prepared for your first day of classes!
- Other factors such as any ACT/SAT scores you submitted to MSU may also raise your
placement. MSU will count the scores that give you the highest placement.
- For example if your ACT/SAT scores place you at a higher level than 400, we will use your ACT/SAT scores for placement.
Whether your major requires MSU Placement Level 400 or 500, continue on to the EdReady Study Path to practice and review your math skills before you enroll in your first math course at MSU or Gallatin College! The EdReady Study Path is not required, but highly encouraged in this case.
You can return to EdReady to continue to work on your EdReady Study Path until you reach an EdReady Study Path score of 100 to ensure you are well prepared for the math courses you will take.
If your major requires MSU Math Placement Level of 500 and your MSU Math Placement Level is 400, your advisor will work with you to register you for Precalculus during your first semester on campus and you can proceed to M 165 or M 171 for your second semester.
- Your major may require specific math course(s) and/or require other science courses that list math placement as a pre-requisite requirement.
