In 1862, Senator Justin Smith Morrill proposed the Morrill Land-Grant College Act. This Act granted land to establish and fund the construction of agricultural and mechanical schools. Many notable schools in the United States are Morrill land- grant colleges including Montana State University. Both the 1862 and 1890 Acts gave more people the opportunity to attend college and offered a new framework for higher education.    Because of  Justin Smith Morrill the United States emerged as a leader in many industries and shaped opportunity for individuals and communities alike.

Because of this remarkable legacy, Montana State University has developed the Morrill Scholars Program to continue drive the mission of the public land grant university into the future by identifying and supporting future leaders who will have an impact on their communities.

As a Morrill Scholar, you’ll have access to the best faculty and staff who are dedicated to ensuring you too can have impact on the world around you.   We have curated a team here to support your education – inside and outside of the classroom – so that when you graduate from MSU you are able to advance a career and a future with impact.
