PCAOB Scholars
Miles Sumner, the first MSU recipient of prestigious PCAOB Scholarship.
The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) awards scholarships to high-achieving undergraduate and graduate accounting students.
The PCAOB is a nonprofit organization created by Congress to strengthen investor confidence by ensuring the integrity of audits for public companies and SEC-registered brokers and dealers. Its work focuses on setting high standards for auditing, inspecting the work of accounting firms, and holding firms accountable when violations occur. Beyond its regulatory role, the PCAOB conducts research, monitors risk, and collaborates with other agencies to support a fair and transparent financial system. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) oversees the PCAOB’s rules, standards, and operations.
This award is a one-time scholarship up to $15,000, covering tuition and fees, books, supplies, and equipment required for courses at their institution.
The PCAOB awards these scholars through a nomination process, and encourages eligible institutions to give special consideration to students of historically underrepresented populations in the accounting profession. Meet our MSU scholar, and learn more about their experience, below.

Miles Sumner | 2025
"'This will basically allow me to go through grad school debt-free,' said Sumner, who hopes to work as a certified public accountant after graduate school. 'I’ll be able to fully focus on school and studying for the CPA exam, and I maybe won’t have to get a job on top of school now. My goal is to get my CPA license, and now I’ll have more time to work towards that.'”
Hometown: Kennewick, Washington
