The goal of the Society of INdigenous Educators is to increase opportunities for American Indian students enrolled in the Teacher Preparation Program at Montana State University.  By providing academic, personal, career, and financial support and guidance to our American Indian students we are contributing to the recruitment, retention, graduation, and placement of American Indian teachers and improving the diversity of the k-12 teaching corps.

Montana Needs More American Indian Teachers

American Indians constitute 6.6% (data) of the total population, 14.7% (data) of the k-12 student population, and currently only 2.3% (data) of the k-12 teachers in our state. SINE aims to increase these numbers by recruiting American Indian students for our Teacher Preparation Program. We are helping our American Indian students to make a more successful transition from student to beginning teacher.

Services SINE Offers

We offer financial support to our students in the way of stipends to offset the additional costs students incur, and to lessen the hardship from not being able to work during the semesters when education majors need to complete intensive practica as well as during their student teaching assignments.
