I. Call to Order

President Waded Cruzado

President Cruzado called the meeting to order at 8:30am.

 

II. Approval of Minutes for January 8, 2019

Minutes were moved to approve by Chris Fastnow and seconded by Cody Stone. The minutes for January 8 were approved unanimously.

 

III. University Wide Information/Announcements

President mentioned Maggie Hayes’ transition to California and welcomed Amber Vestal to her new role and responsibilities.

V. Old Items

  1. Relationships with Students Policy

    Kellie Peterson, Legal Counsel

    Adoption of policy recommended by Legal Counsel and parents support group supports this policy per Dean Matt Caires. The policy was passed unanimously.

 

VI. New Item

        A.  Personal Mobility Devices Policy
             Kellie Peterson, Legal Counsel

 John How and Candace Mastel shared a presentation on the new policy to be on the front end of this matter to       promote safety for multi-modal transportation and keep pedestrians on campus safe with these new regulations enforced in this policy.

Dean Caires and Michael Trotter offered comments to share to the proposed policy. Bob Hawks appreciated this policy consideration for the City of Bozeman. Provost Mokwa asked about the “walk-only” zones.

VII. Informational Items

  1. Know Your MSU: MSU Writing Center                                                                                                                                Dr. Michelle Miley , Director

 

The writing center is a student support and relational space. Peer tutors are the foundation of the center.  The Writing Center has afforded several interdisciplinary connections with students and faculty across campus.  Anne Jackson and Ken Wilson donated to the Writing Center for STEM scholarships.

Chris Murray shared the generous gift from the strong relationships of Anne Jackson and Ken Wilson.

Provost Mokwa shared his appreciation to Michelle and her team.

       B.  Strategic Plan Update: Choosing Promise, Goal 1.2 Graduate Education

Goal 1.2: Expanding high quality graduate education. Metric 1.2.1: We are working to grow graduate education portfolio with appropriate balance across programs by 2024.  Metric 1.2.2: MSU will match up to 20 additional externally funded graduate research assistants with institutionally supported and competitively awarded GRAs, aligned with Grand Challenge areas, annually by 2020.  Metric 1.2.3: MSU will increase the number of research doctoral degrees (to 90), professional practice doctorates (to 30), and Masters degrees (to 650) awarded annually by 2024.  Metric 1.2.4: All graduate degree programs will undergo systematic review and, if appropriate, redesign to ensure that they are structures to meet the diverse career paths of today’s students by 2022. 

Dean Craig Ogilvie shared the Graduate School is working on the success of graduate student retention: Choosing Promise.  The Graduate School is working towards making students feel welcome and valued.  They are working to strengthen faculty mentoring of graduate students, support broad career goals, and reduce time-to-degree.
