Swingle Health Center 1st Floor Backfill Plan: Gallatin College
Description of Request
Submitted By: Stephanie Gray, Dean of Gallatin College & Desiree Dalke, Gallatin College Allied Health Programs
Gallatin College Allied Health department is requesting to relocate to the Swingle
building on MSU
Campus to conduct all healthcare courses and programs once Student Health Partners
has vacated. The
Allied Health department currently consists of three programs: Phlebotomy (CTS), Medical
Assistant
(CAS), and Healthcare Administrative Professional (CAS) and serves approximately 40
students. The use of the Swingle Health Center facilities would allow Allied Health
to expand programming, thus fulfilling outcomes of the ARPA grant with Gallatin County
and supporting MSU’s Strategic Plan Goals 1.1 and 3.2. Currently, all Allied Health
course labs and lectures are held at the Gallatin College East campus in room GGE
4, which is a biohazard level II classroom. With the planned growth and expansion
of the Allied Health programs (as outlined in ARPAgrant through Gallatin County),
the Gallatin College East campus cannot continue to provide adequatespace to support
the department, equipment, and student needs while maintaining safety and accreditation
requirements. The Swingle building would be the ideal space for the Allied Health
department as it is built in coordination with the department’s biohazard, safety,
and healthcare program needs and is essentially move-in ready. In addition to an estimated
savings in lease costs, the overall savings to the College and MSU will be significant
if Gallatin College Allied Health gained access to the Swingle Health spaces as no
new facilities and likely very little equipment will be needed. A significant portion
of the medical and dental equipment that remains in the Swingle building will be absorbed
by the Allied Health programs and used in lectures and labs to provide realistic workforce
settings for the instructors and students.
The Swingle first floor offers a true medical and dental workspace experience that
does not exist in any
other MSU facility. The Allied Health program plans to utilize the first floor as
is with minor to no facility
changes. This proposal would consolidate Allied Health programs into the majority
of the first floor. This would focus Gallatin College programs to the minimum footprint
to be efficient with space and could allow for expansion if program execution and
actual utilization warrant additional space.
Resolution
