Dear Montana School Leader: On behalf of the MSU Science Math Resource Center and the Montana Science Olympiad state office, I want to thank you for your role in educating and supporting Montana students. Science Olympiad is a valuable program that builds teamwork, communication and a variety of skills in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Through Science Olympiad, students, teachers, parents, principals and business leaders bond together and work toward a shared goal. Just like a sports team, Science Olympiad requires preparation, commitment, coaching and practice throughout the year. Each school-based team is allowed to bring 15 students who cross-train for a variety of events in their skill set, but some school clubs have many more members, allowing for an apprentice and mentoring system. We urge you to support your Science Olympiad team to the fullest extent possible. They may need funding or fund-raising ideas for travel, supplies or materials. The team may need space for practicing, storing materials or building a device. Your coach may appreciate recommendations for parent and community volunteers. And, of course, your team will appreciate the community’s full backing as they compete on behalf of your school to bring home medals, trophies and life-changing experiences! Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about Montana Science Olympiad and your school’s participation.
Sincerely, Suzi Taylor Director, MSU Science Math Resource Center State Director, Montana Science Olympiad taylor@montana.edu |
