ITEM No. 4 – RECOMMENDATION – Mandeville Creek Arboretum

Presenter: Elizabeth Cramblet, Campus Planner

The Department of Ecology requests approval to create a program showcasing native plants along Mandeville Creek. The project will provide a teaching platform for native plants and their effects on the creek’s habitats. This program will also help support the University’s water conservation goals and is in adherence with multiple goals in the University’s Strategic Plan.
$10,000 of strategic investment planning funds will be used to purchase and install the trees in coordination with MSU Facilities Services. Native trees and plants would be planted within the 35-foot buffer of Mandeville Creek and within Wally Byam Park. There is no plan to include signage as the tree database can provide information on the different species.

Chris Fastnow motioned to approve the Mandeville Creek Arboretum. Kris Johnson seconded the motion, and the Mandeville Creek Arboretum was approved unanimously.
