IEFA Becomes a Reality
Joyce Silverthorne is an enrolled member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes and also Kickapoo on her mother's side. She served in the Department of Education in D.C. as the Director of the Office of Indian Education from 2011 until 2017. Prior to that, she served as Director of the CSKT Tribal Education Department from 1999-2007. Silverthorne also served as the P-20 Education Policy Advisor for Montana State Superintendent Denise Juneau, for two years starting in December 2008. She was also the gubernatorial appointee to the Montana Board of Public Education for ten years.
