V. Faculty Senate response to President Trump Executive Order
· Background: Chair Babcock
· Move to have a discussion about a Faculty Senate Statement: Michael Reidy, moved, Bill Brown, seconded. Approved.
· DRAFT Statement – Chair-Elect Wilmer
· Friendly Amendments:
o line 26: replace “any” with a thorough review
o line 20: replace arbitrarily with in a discriminatory manner, change arbitrary with discriminator
o line 20: “while using power to discriminate”
o Moved to approve: Michael Reidy, second Lela Sterman, approved
o line 32 “That we as members of the faculty senate…
o Moved to approve: Robb Larson, Michael Reidy seconded, one opposed, approved
o line 32: While faculties include diverse voices, we as….. change uncompromising to without compromise.
o line 32: While faculty include diverse voices
o Move to leave lines 32, 33, 34 as is. Leal Sterman moved, Eric Austin, seconded. One opposed, one abstention. Approved
o line 14: removed scholars and students replace with those. Dean Adams moved, Michael Reidy, seconded, approved.
o line 5 remove senate. Robb Larson moved, Michael Reidy seconded, approved.
o line 11 remove from those counties…. Add and from… Moved by Scott Creel, Jason Bolte, seconded. Approved
o Amy Thomas moved to pass the amended document, second by Michael Reidy, passed.
VI. Public comment:
Steve Kirchhoff asked Faculty Senate to place on the agenda the question
if the Koch Foundation grant document and its possible
imposing on academic freedom.
