Dear 4-H Families,

Fair is on it’s way and this newsletter is decided to all things fair!  For those of you that have not picked up your fair packets, they have been given to your organizational leaders.

Please take the time to review the fair book for any changes to the schedule or exhibits.

We wish you good luck with fair and if you have any questions, please feel free to stop in or give us a call.

HOW TO FILL OUT INDOOR EXHIBITOR LABELS

Carter and Fallon County Fair Indoor Project exhibitors, be sure to fill out project labels for each of your indoor fair exhibits. This is a sample label:

Age:  current 4-H age:  Age as of October 1 of the current 4-H year.

Project Level: project name and level

Example: Entomology Level 2

Years in Project: Number of years enrolled in this project area

Example:  4 years in Entomology

Years in Level: Number of years in your current level

 Example:  1 year in Entomology Level 2

Labels will be available at the fairgrounds when you pick up you entry tags

SHOW CLOTHES

Did you just get a chocolate stain on your only white shirt and now you need show clothes for the Fair? The Extension Office has some available for you to have or borrow. Stop by to see if something will work for you.

LIVESTOCK PAPERWORK NEEDED AT WEIGH-IN

  • Carter County Bill of Sale (Beef)- Please see instructions on filling out below
  1. Leave livestock sold to blank.
  2. If 4-H/FFA member doesn’t own the brand, we need a Bill of Sale from the brand owner (parent) or whoever.
  3. List steer tag number in description space.
  4. Bring with you to fair weigh-in
  5. If you are traveling from out of State, make sure that you have a bill of health on animals.
  • Health Inspection—All animals that are traveling from out of state will need to have a health inspection.
  • Market Animal Release-These forms must be completed and turned in at the time of weigh-ins.

GOLDEN PITCHFORK CONTEST

Carter and Fallon County 4-H and FFA Youth

 

This is an elite award that is given to individuals that have the highest score from five categories. An award will be given in each of the following market projects: beef, goat, sheep, swine, poultry and rabbit.

Please call to schedule a time to take the written test for poultry and rabbit. Test need to be taken prior to the conclusion of fair.

FALLON COUNTY

ANIMAL HEALTH

All Livestock Exhibitors need to make sure that their animal exhibits are in good health prior to bringing them to the fairgrounds. Animals will be checked prior to unloading at fairgrounds and if they are found to be in poor health, exhibitor will be asked to remove them.

STALL DECORATION IDEAS

  • Include your name, your animals name, and Club name.
  • Include pictures of yourself and your animal.
  • Make sure that you hang your decorations high enough so your animal doesn’t make a snack out of it. If your animal does make it a snack try to repair it as much as possible and move it to a higher location.
  • Try to have the theme of your decorations match the theme of the fair.
  • If your animal has pedigree papers make sure to include a copy of them in your design.
  • Check your animal often and dispose of any soiled shavings and make sure they have plenty of clean water.
  • Invite visitors to the fair to come have a look at your stall decorations and explain to them why you chose those decorations.
  • Have fun and think outside of the box with your decorations.

DON’T FORGET YOUR FAIR T-SHIRTS     

MidRivers Communications donated t-shirts to all the Carter County 4-H and FFA members exhibiting at the Carter County Fair. These t-shirts will be available at the fair office the week of fair. We encourage you to wear them throughout the fair.

CARTER COUNTY 4-H CAKE DECORATING AUCTION

Carter County 4-H members are invited to bring a decorated cake

to the fair and auction it off during the Youth Livestock Sale.

FAIR THEME: “Carter County Where the West Was Won”

Requirements:

  • Participants must list “Decorated Cake” on their fair entry form.

 

  • All members that complete the previous year’s record book are eligible to participate.

 

  • Cake decorations should depict the fair theme.

 

  • Have your cake on display in the fair exhibit hall by 10:00 am Saturday for Peoples' Choice voting.

 

  • All cake sellers will need to be present at 12:00 pm to have their picture taken with their cake.

4-H FAIR SET-UP– AUGUST 5– 8 AM

 

Don’t forget 4-H is responsible for the set-up of the fair this year. All 4-H members are encouraged to help with this task as many hands, make light work for all.

 

There will be a  lunch and drinks provided, it would be greatly appreciated if you would bring something to add to the meal. Please contact Mikel Fruit with any questions. 

CARTER COUNTY STALL DECORATION CONTEST

 

Carter County Fairboard will be holding a stall decoration contest this year. Stalls will be judged on how the participant incorporates the fair theme “Carter County Where the West Was Won” into their decorations

MANDATORY MARKET ANIMAL MEETING

 

There will be a mandatory market animal meeting held Friday, August 12 at 7:00 pm in the grandstands at the fairgrounds.

 

This meeting will cover the sale order and what will be expect of youth and their adults. Youth and their adults will need to attend.

DON’T FORGET TO PICK-UP YOUR EXHIBITOR T-SHIRT

 

Each 4-H and FFA youth member who exhibits in the Fallon County Fair will receive a t-shirt. When you turn in your entry forms to the Extension Office please pick up your t-shirt.

 

Please join us August 21st at 9:00 a.m. and make sure you wear your shirt for a group picture.

PROJECT INTERVIEWS

 

  • The Exhibit Hall will be closed Wednesday, August 17th for Project Interviews and 4-H Indoor Exhibit judging.
  • Arrive 5 minutes prior to your scheduled Project Interview so you have adequate time to prepare.
  • If you are unable to make your scheduled Project Interview, please contact Kodie at (406) 853-2591 to reschedule or cancel.

All youth that participate in project interviews and receive a grand champion are eligible to receive the “Champion of Champions” award!

FALLON COUNTY SILENT AUCTION

Open only to 4-H Indoor Exhibits

  • Items for this event will need to be identified on the entry form after the description of item.
  • Entries for this event will be entered in the fair as you would normally, receiving ribbons and premiums.
  • The bidding will be in increments of $1.00 and the highest bidder at the end of the auction will take home the item after payment.
  • The auction will run from 3:00 pm Friday until Sunday at 3:00 pm. Items may be paid for and picked up after 4:00 pm Sunday.

 

A full explanation of the silent auction is in your Fairbook.

Silent Auction items may be advertised by the member on 8 1/2” X 11” posters to be displayed in the livestock barn and beneath the grandstand.

FALLON COUNTY MARKET BEEF HANDLING ASSESSMENT

 

A Beef Handling Assessment  is required of all 4-H/FFA beef exhibitors and will be conducted on Thursday evening, August 18th. 

 

This assessment is done to ensure that animals and youth are matched properly and can be shown in a manner that is safe for the youth, judges and animals.  If animals are unable to be handled during the Assessment and present a danger to anyone in or around the show ring they may be asked to remove their animal from the fairground.

ULTRASOUND SCHEDULE

 

Goats/ Sheep /Swine – Thursday

  • Swine will be weighed and ultrasounded from 4-6 pm as they unload. Goats / Sheep will be at 6 pm

Beef– Friday

  • Beef will be from 6:30-7 pm

MANDATORY MARKET LIVESTOCK MEETING

 

Don’t forget to attend the mandatory market livestock meeting on Sunday, August 21st at 9:00 a.m.

 

  • All animals must be removed from the fairgrounds from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. unless prior arrangements are made with Extension Staff.

 

  • Market Livestock Exhibitors must be present to load their animal and remove pen decorations.

 

  • If you are not able to be present, it will be your responsibility to arrange someone to load your animal, remove pen decorations and you will need to let Extension know who will be there in your place.

FAIR CLEAN-UP

 

Clean-Up– Tuesday, August 23rd @ 8:00 am
