Fashion Revue
Contest will take place during Montana 4-H Congress event and interview times will take place on Wednesday July 12, 2023.
The State Fashion Revue is an educational component of the 4‐H sewing and textiles program. It emphasizes skill development in selecting, constructing, accessorizing, and modeling of a garment or garments. Additional skills developed through the Fashion Revue are leadership, self‐confidence, poise, good posture, good grooming, and planning.
CATEGORIES:
Traditional
At least one clothing item newly constructed and worn by contestant. Multiple clothing items constructed to make a complete outfit are encouraged.
Refashioned
At least one clothing item that has been repurposed into a significantly different wearable garment or look. A photograph of the original clothing item is required to be brought to the judging.
Traditional and trending fabric manipulation and surface techniques are encouraged, such as fabric dyeing, folding, free motion stitching, applique, and other fiber techniques. More categories may be added for the future.
CONTESTANT ELIGIBILITY:
Counties may register any members who:
- Have been enrolled in a 4‐H sewing and textiles project in the current 4‐H program
- Will model a garment or outfit the participant has constructed, reconstructed, hand‐knitted or crocheted during the current 4‐H
- Received a blue ribbon at the county level or a county may apply their own standards for selection purposes and is old enough to attend Montana 4‐H Multiple individuals from the same county may participate.
- Contestants may enter in both the traditional and refashioned categories, however, only a state winner in the traditional category will be selected for awards. Additional winners for other categories may be added for future years.
JUDGING CRITERIA (scorecards for each category attached):
- Presentation of overall complete look including originality, creativity and design concepts A narrative written by the participant will be read during judging.
- Construction as viewed on the contestant while Interior construction may be examined on the contestant by judges during the interview with an opportunity for contestant to explain technique. No construction judging will be done off the contestant.
- Oral
The state winner will be selected on the basis of their placing in the State Fashion Revue with consideration to overall 4‐H sewing and textiles achievement and fashion revue participation including presentation and oral interview.
All Fashion Review participants will have the opportunity to participate in the Fashion Show during Montana 4‐ H Congress Banquet. Winners will be announced during the closing banquet.
AWARDS:
A top winner will be decided for each category and the State winner in the traditional category will be awarded the opportunity to attend National 4‐H Congress. Montana 4‐H Congress Participants that are 13 years of age are permitted to compete in the state contest at the discretion of the County. However, they may not be eligible for an award trip due to age requirements set by the national/regional event. They do not lose their eligibility and can compete in future years to again earn eligibility for a national award trip.
