Proficiency-based education (PBE) is a student-centered curricular approach that strategically uses instruction and assessment to mobilize students to take responsibilty for their own learning. This means instructional time is more flexible, which allows students to work at their own pace to demonstrate mastery of specific skills and academic content of curricular competencies.
