Mission

The Montana State College Indian Council, now known as the American Indian Council (AIC), was established in order to assist new and continuing Native students in their adjustment to college life, and to promote academic success through group support, advocacy, and leadership. An aspect that sets the AIC apart from other student groups at MSU is the use of cultural heritage to foster pride, integrity, and achievement at the college level and beyond. The AIC ultimately encompasses perserverance and success for all Indigenous students at Montana State University.

Powwow

The AIC Powwow is one of the most popular powwows in Montana. The AIC works together with faculty, other students, and volunteers to plan and execute this sought after event. The AIC Powwow is a two day event that brings together Native peoples from across the nation and establishes a time of reconnection, healing, and celebration for students, families, and communities as a whole.

Royalty Pageant

Incorporated within the annual AIC Powwow is the AIC Royalty Pageant. The AIC Royalty Pageant is a competition that decides who will become Miss Indian MSU, Miss Teen MSU Princess, Junior Miss MSU Princess, and Miss Tiny Tot MSU. These roles are filled by Native students who show great knowledge of culture and leadership qualities. The princesses ultimately become role models for their communities and represent the AIC.
