The Biology Teaching option is designed for students who wish to become licensed to teach Biology in grades 5-12.
Biology Teaching – B.S. in Biological Sciences, Biology Teaching Emphasis
Housed within Montana State’s Department of Ecology as an option within the Biological Sciences major, Biology Teaching provides a solid education in biology and basic sciences with professional preparation courses required for state teacher certification. Graduates will gain a clear understanding of natural and human-related processes within ecosystems, learn the basic principles of plant and animal ecology and be qualified to teach secondary school biology.
The Biological Sciences major offers three additional Options Within the Major: Conservation Biology & Ecology, Fish & Wildlife Ecology & Management and Organismal Biology. Additionally, as well as the teaching major, Biology (5-12) is available as a teaching minor.
The Department of Ecology conducts research for over 50 federal and state agencies and NGOs in Montana, the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem and around the world, including eastern Africa and Antarctica.
